  • Transfer edited video back onto Sony Camcorder?

I have a Sony Camcorder CX550e which has a large capacity HDD. I have used very little of the camcorders storage capacity. I has wondering if files can be transferred back onto the camcorder after you have finished editing them & if so what format would you use?

I also have a friend who has exact same camera & he was wondering if you can take this idea even further by not just storing a finished video but the original clips after they have been processed by Vegas?

    Thanks in advance

I have an HDR-CX550V which is very similar.

I think this would be a very bad idea. I live in fear of the day the internal flash on that camera will fail.

It only has 64G capacity – that is tiny by modern standards. You can pick up an external 500G SATA III drive for $50!

The only way I can think to put files on the internal flash of your 550e would be to copy them to an SD card, put the SD card in the cam, and use the “move” function to move them from the card to the internal drive.

The reason even popped up was because I was on a cruise & was approached about others as what I was doing what & how did my footage end up. I still have raw footage from previous shoots & was able to show them. They would have been more impressed had they seen a finished product with titles music etc & I knew that I had lots of storage just sitting idle. Maybe if I do another cruise I’ll put older projects onto a tablet instead.

    Thanks in advance

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. The HD output on the 550 is nice for hooking up to a TV for viewing.

If you can render a project in .mts, and then put it on an SD, it might play back. But please stay away from the internal flash … once it dies your 550 will be a lot less useful.

The 550e was sort of a pinnacle of perfection for Sony. Big 3.5″ screen, great menus compared to the later models, super-good stabilization, a handy -iAuto button, gps, night-shot, etc. I really love mine. The only real flaws are the low-light performance and the AVCHD 1.0 encoder, limited to 1080 60i at 24 Mbps.

Take care of your little jewel!
