Transfer back to camera
Posted by Lars Wikstrom on June 29, 2006 at 8:00 pmAfter I finished editing my 1080i project can I transfer back to the P2 card and take the camera to my 53″ TV and play back the edited spot? can I convert to a MXF format or will it play QT’s or is this a no go???

June 30, 2006 at 1:06 amYou didn’t say if you were using Final Cut Pro – but if you are – it couldn’t be easier. I do it all the time to take spots edited in 480i to a place where I transfer them to BetaCam for airing in our market.
All you do is put the camera in MCR mode; push the button “audio dub / thumbnail” once to make the thumbnails go away and then in the Final Cut “File” menu go to “Print to Video” and set up your bars and slate or whatever you want it to do. Make sure you have the radio button “Automatically Start Recording” selected and hit go.Brian FitzGerald

June 30, 2006 at 3:19 amWow it is that simple going to 1080i as well, that is cool. I’ll give it a shot!
Thanks,

June 30, 2006 at 4:37 pmI can’t seem to get this to work. Is it because of HD mode? Do the camera setting have to be set to FCP etting for it to work right? I have the P2 card mounted on the computer but when I try to print to tape I get an error message saying that it is write protected even thought the card is not write protected?

July 2, 2006 at 4:57 pmI think I know what is wrong. Part of this is “counter-intuitive”. The trip BACK to the camera is not the same as when you downloaded FROM the camera (why Panasonic -why?).
When you are downloading FROM the camera you put the cam into the “1394 Device” mode and the camera’s P2 cards show up on the desktop.
This is NOT what you do when moving movies BACK to the camera. Refer to my earlier instructions and put your camera in the MCR mode (where you see the thumbnails) and then push the button on top of the camera called “Audio Dub / Thumbnail”. This will make the thumbnails disappear but will NOT put the P2 card icons on the desktop. This now is the mode you want the camera to be when you tell Final Cut to “print to video”.
That should do it for you.
If not, please call me at 316 634 1166 and I’ll walk you through it.Brian FitzGerald

July 3, 2006 at 5:43 pmI’ll try it again. I thought I trued that way first like you said but I will try it again. Have you tried to output your stuff in 1080i or just 480i?
