Does anyone know of transcription software that works with avid 8.? Perhaps there is a suggested workflow regarding this process. I’m at a loss.

    Thanks

Well, the typical process is to watch Quicktime files with visible timecode and type what is being said in a word processor like Microsoft Word. Pausing the QT to help you catch up when falling behind. And adding timecodes of what is being said at regular intervals.

And that pretty much is how it is done today. We export QT files with timecode and send them off to a transcription service that has people sitting down, listening and typing. There really is no software out there good enough to transcribe the QTs with speech recognition. Some have tried, but it gets comical when accents come into play, or people speak fast or stumble.

Adobe had one that was about 50-60% accurate…which makes it useless, as needing to listen to the QTs and fix those errors makes using them in the first place not very practical.

The place we use, utilize court reporters, makes it go through pretty quickly.

    Shane,

Thanks for responding Shane, this is a big help. Once you get the transcription back from the service what do you typically do with it?

Avid Script Sync with v. 7 and below but not v.8 – we keep v. 7 on one machine just for that process which can then be opened in v.8 for use.

For those interested, it was announced that the licensing issue with Nexeidia has been solved and Script Sync features will soon return in an upcoming version of Media Composer.
