  Transcoding various Frame Rates & HDV

  Hi Geniuses 🙂

  I have two problems, one has been there for years and I just cant figure out a solution on my own so I’ve just left it there. The other is relatively new.

  1st one, I have a Sony Z1U. Every time I shoot a music video on a HDV format, once I import it into FCP and try to sync original tracks from CD to the lips from the camera, it never works. i.e, it will sync a bit then de-sync few seconds further down the timeline. If I sort on side out, it automatically un-sync with the original track else where. What could be the cause of this please? It only happens when I shoot on the HDV format not DVCAM or Mini DV.

  2nd question:
  A friend of mine wants me to help edit some footage (music video) which he filmed on an EX3. He said, some of the shots where filmed on 30fps and others on 25fps. He said I need to transcode them. straight away, alarm bells are ringing for me as the word transcode brings shiver down my spine as it just seems so daunting to be honest. How can I do this and would I really experience problems editing these two different frame rates in my FCS2 on my NON INTEL (PowerPc) Apple G5 QUAD?

  I know transcoding is set to be a simple thing on the new Intel Macs but I don’t have one 🙁 how can I achieve this on my PowerPC G5 Mac?
