  • Transcoding DVCPro HD P2 footage to Apple Prores 422(HQ) through FCP Log and Transfer

    Hey There;

    I’m currently working on a project that’s using a combination of footage, the majority of which is shot on the Red One and transcoded to Apple Prores 422(HQ) using Red Rushes, but I’ve also got some HVX 200 DVCPro HD 1080i24pa footage that I want to trancode to Apple Prores 422(HQ) using Final Cut Pro. I’ve searched the FCP manual to find out how to transcode through Log and Transfer as one might with AVC-Intra or Red One footage, but have come up with nothing. Am I missing something, or is it not possible to transcode DVCPro HD footage from an HVX200 to Apple Prores 422(HQ) through Log and Transfer? And if it is possible, how does one go about enabling the Log and Transfer Import Preferences to allow me to transcode DVCPro HD footage from the P2?

    If you can enlighten me, thanks much!

    [Andy Lawless] “is it not possible to transcode DVCPro HD footage from an HVX200 to Apple Prores 422(HQ) through Log and Transfer?”

    Correct. DVCPRO HD from P2 only comes in as DVCPRO HD. Because there is no native support for AVCIntra, that converts to ProRes.

    You will need to transcode to ProRes after you import, either with the media manager or Compressor.

    As I suspected. Thanks for the clarity, Shane.

    Me too, Leonardo!

    At least this thread confirms it for me though.

    Is this still true, that you can’t import DVCPro as ProRes in L&T?

    Yup, tis true. DVCPRO HD only comes in as DVCPRO HD. But that is a very good codec to edit in.

    have a project that is shot on a panasonic HVX200
    that shoots DVCPRO HD and a Canon 1d mark iv
    that shoots h.264 files, I am editing in FCP and using
    log and transfer to import the files. Panasonic has a plug in that transfers to DVCPRO HD and My canon has a plug in that transfers to all the prores formats. my question is can i work with both of these formats on the same timeline to edit?

    Why are there ProRes options in the Log & Transfer preferences? I have tried them but they still import only DVCpro.

    That is for AVCIntra P2. Different format. DVCPRO HD only comes in as that. AVCI can come in native, or transcoded to ProRes

    Ah! Well what cameras record to that codec? So the HPX170 only does the DVCPRO, correct?

    What’s the deal with the 720p actually being 960×540?
