    Hi all,

I’m at the end of my rope, and I feel like there should be an easy solution out there, but I’m just not able to find it!

    Here’s the situation:
Working on a feature, shot with the ALEXA camera.
    22 Days, over 200 rolls.
The editor wanted me to transcode everything into ProRes 422 (LT), and for 21 of the days, that worked just fine, using Compressor.
The first day’s footage, though, just keeps blowing up.

I cannot figure out what is going on!

The clips Submit, then run down the gas gauge. At about 4 seconds left, they start over again, with a longer time remaining. Again, at about 4 seconds, they start over again, with an even longer time remaining. Then, they fail. (3x crash service down)

As far as I can tell, there is nothing special about any of this footage. It is ProRes 4444 (and here I might be showing some stupidity, but I’m ASSUMING it is 4444 because the Codec listed in its info is ap4h). I’m not sure what other info I can look for to see what is wrong.

I’ve tried running them through Compressor to make ProRes 422 (LT)s, and ProRes 422 (Proxy). No dice. I tried MPEG Streamclip. Same deal. I tried copying the clips off the drive, and writing them to different places. Nothing. I’ve cleared out the qmaster folder. Nothing. I’m still fairly new to this, so I don’t know what other options/workflows would be available.

I did find what looks to be an aborted attempt at a Dailies folder. The clips in there are named “Filename”_3cP_ProResHQ.mov. Their info says Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) – duh – Integer (Big Endian). (The Big Endian is audio, correct? So that shouldn’t matter here.) I tried running THOSE through Compressor, but they failed, too.

    Please help!

    Thanks so much,
    Kim

    Hi Dave,

Well, I’m writing to a 2TB drive, with about 300 GB left.
I’m only trying to transcode one file at a time right now, so would 2 or 3 gigs make that big of a difference?

Also, I’ve been trying to, as a test, save files directly to my hard drive, and that’s 200 GB with 60 GB free.

However, since you asked, I just tried writing two files to a completely empty drive. 🙂 No dice.

    ARGH.

    Appreciate the suggestion, though!

I ran into similar headaches on an Avid job with Alexa .

Transoding to DNX 145 would fail with strange error messages. I was theorizing that there was a bad frame at the end of the clip, as there was a Media Offline slate showing at the end.

Try using Compressor for your transcode and set an outpoint prior to the end of the clip and see if you can transcode it.
