Posted by Bobby Holbrook ii on March 6, 2008 at 5:27 pm

    Hello guys,
How can I transcode MXF files for a older version of FCP (5.0.4) ? The footage has been ingested useing P2CMS and needs to be edited on an older FCP system (5.0.4). Is there any way to do this? Or must that system be updated to FCP 6 to work?
    Thanks
    Bobby

P.S. I’ve posted this in P2 forum as well.

If the footage has already been injested then they should work. By INJESTED you mean CONVERTED TO QUICKTIME FILES, right? Or do you mean they were ORGANIZED by P2CMS and are still MXF files?

FCP 5.0.4 was the first to support P2 import.

By ingested I mean organized by P2cms and are still MXF files in there own folder w/ Audio, Clip, Icon, Proxy, Video and Voice data.
    Thanks

P2CMS can export QT files, can it not? I haven’t played with it enough.

Or you can use the File>Import>Panasonic P2 option and point to the folder with all the MXF files. You might have to do it one clip at a time…which would suck. DUnno.

Yes, p2cms will export the file to the projects capture scratch folder but it will not change it from an MXF to a Quicktime file, it’s simple a copy of the MXF. Importing the file through FCP will work BUT will only import (1) clip at a time and with well over 1000 clips in this one project alone that simple won’t work. So is the upgrade to FCP 6 the only route?

    Thanks

Imagine Products will transcode the files for you. I’d stay away from doing it in FCP 5.0.4, there were issues when upgrading to projects later.

All though I have the upgrade on other systems, i am waiting to finish this job to upgrade this system so that i do not run into problems. Will Imagine Products do more then one clip at a time?
    Thanks Bobby
