I’m editing a non-broadcast events video (family event). I’m ending up using a lot of older 4:3 DV footage I shot to be combined with several newer clips I shot on 16:9 HD footage.

Since the majority of the footage is 4:3 DV, I’ve successfully transcoded the 16:9 HD clips into a DV 4:3 format. I know I have to “unsqueeze” the HD footage to match the 4:3 frame. Using the “Resize” tool I’m getting a “more or less” correct ratio, but I was wondering besides my guessing-game approach is their a standard “correct” numbers set to use for the scaling the X and Y axis in the FX Editor boxes?

Thanks in advance for the time and attention.

You can always use the Reformat Pan & Scan (not pan & zoom) from the effect palette to set up letterbox, pillarbox, or pan and scan or pan and tilt depending on needs.

If using AMA to access sources, you can use the reformat column in the bin on a per clip or multiple clip basis to adjust aspect ratio as needed. I can’t remember right now if it works for captured media, it may.
