Transcode *TO* AVCHD ?
Posted by Brian Charles on April 18, 2011 at 6:11 pmA client has made an unusual request to have the video play on a Sony S-Frame digital photo frame. The hardware says it supports AVCHD.
I’ve transcoded *from* AVCHD but since this is an in-camera format, is it even possible to transcode to it?

April 18, 2011 at 6:45 pmAn application like tsMuxer can mux and author AVCHD from compliant video (H.264 MP4) and audio (Dolby or linear PCM) streams — but I’d definitely recommend getting one of the frames and testing the workflow before delivering.

April 18, 2011 at 6:52 pmIt seems that Sony S-Frame series supports MP4 too.

Makes sense — MP4 and AVCHD can both contain the same kinds of essences. As long as the playback functionality on the frame is the same for both formats, I’d be more comfortable delivering MP4.

April 18, 2011 at 7:15 pmMany thanks for your suggestions.
This was a curve ball emailed to me after I’d produced an approved HD format video for a client with the understanding that the delivery format was Blu-ray and Web.

April 18, 2011 at 7:44 pmI hope my response was helpful. If you run into any bizarre gotchas with this device, I’d love to hear about them, if you don’t mind sharing — just to file away in my mental database of playback devices.
Thank you!

April 18, 2011 at 7:59 pmWill do, have downloaded tsMuxer, it is Windows only and while I could launch BootCamp to test, I’ve transcoded to MPEG4 and will have an answer this afternoon.
Just found a Mac version online, will let you know if it is required for this project.
