Transcode quality
Hello all, thanks for any help in advance! I am a novice at Encore and authoring in general so, bear with me, please.
I realize that DVD quality is only 720×480 but, that said, the quality drop off from 1080 to 720 is so staggering (see image) that I feel like I must be doing something wrong… The transcode settings are pretty much the standard with the only difference being that I use the “Scale to fill” option.
Hopefully this makes sense – any help is incredibly appreciated!

SD NTSC is the worst TV standart ever made, so there is nothing to talk about.thank god, I´m living in PAL-land 😉
one thing that might be possible is – if you have used 1440×1080 (nativ resolution), which is anamorphic HD1080, what will be interpreted as 1920×1080, than it´s possible that your downscaling will result like this.
what´s your original source? HDV or AVCHD? HDV definitly is 1440×1080 and AVCHD could be 1440×1080 depending on your recoding-setting within your cam.

The popular editors (Premiere, FCP, etc…) cannot produce pro quality images when downscaling to SD.
