    Hello all,

My company just added two FCP 5 systems to the edit bays here and I am wondering how best to send clips and finished composited show elements between the rooms.

Can anyone advise me on precisely what Quicktime and Compressor settings to use for Avid-to-FCP, and from FCP-to-Avid? (Most clips will average 20 seconds to 2 minutes in length. Broadcast resolution needs to be maintained [although we are presently doing everything in DV25 res].)

    Many thanks!!

You need to know about “Automatic Duck”. https://www.automaticduck.com/

Go to their website and you’ll learn everything you ever wondered about cross platform transfering of projects, media, etc.

Wow! Several folks have directed me to this site and I viewed it. So it’s necessary to spend $1000 for software just to sucessfully move FCP-exported Quicktimes into Avid and vice-versa??

    Dude,

Your surprise at the cost of Auto Duck amuses me. You asked for a solution and we gave it to you. Now you’re complaining about the cost! Puhleez!

If the cost is a problem, then don’t attempt a workflow that crosses NLE platforms. It’s that simple.

Actually I never complained about anything. It just surprises me that these digital processing methods are that incompatible.

If you are going to send finished films, then of course you can export a DV25 and the AVID will import( transcode) that file for you to coninue working with and the other way around ( a selfcontained movie with 2 tracks). and if you want a clip to include an alpha channel, make sure you do an export to a codec that

I want to thank Johan Skaneby for saving the company I work for one thousand dollars. My original post was in reference to trading CLIPS and FINISHED SHOW ELEMENTS between Avid and FCP rooms. I was promptly advised by several “experts” that it is necessary to purchase costly software from Automatic Duck to accomplish this.

One fellow even indignantly advised me to stop “complaining” when I expressed surprise at the need for this software. (And my printable advice to that individual is to re-enroll in whatever film and video academy he undoubtedly graduated from and see if they offer any courses in tact, diplomacy or other people skills.)

This software turns out to be absolutely unnecessary, as DV-25 clips transfer just fine between the two platforms without specific setting adjustments or conversion. The initial snags I had run into were anomalous.

    Ragards,
