  • Tracking particles After birth

Posted by Joseph Doyle on December 14, 2008 at 7:11 pm

I searched The FAQ but nothing really fit So, I appologize if this is redundant and I missed it.

I have a particle effect (particle world) and I can track the emmitter 8 ways to Sunday.

What I want to do is track the particles after birth to a womans face. It’s a pretty 2 D effect and I have bent it with sphere and moved the z space so it looks good. The problem is the particles don’t track. I can substitute the effect pretty easily the way it’s built if one of the other PEs will work.

The effect is supposed to look like ooze coming from her pores. Eventually (in another shot) they become airborn.

Thanks for any help you all can give.

Don’t understand your use of the term “track.”

    > The effect is supposed to look like ooze coming from her pores. Eventually (in another shot)
    > they become airborn. < Your particles would be set to emit from a large area, not a point. The CC Sphere effect may not do what you want since it is not a 3D effect although, if the face is a matte, you can wrap the CC Sphere around an interior flat layer. You would make the particles rise by keyframing and changing the physics of the system but to get a 3D illusion you'd be adding more layers of the particles in layers that are closer to the camera and can cast shadows on the face layer. Stay tuned, others will offer some advice sooner or later. If you are crossposting, please come back and close this with your working solution. bogiesan

I’m with Dave on this in that I don’t quite follow you on the “tracking” part.

Are you trying to be specific as to where the particles appear (1) during emition or (2) where they move after birth?

Where they reside after birth. I realize I should be doing a 3D model of he head and mapping the ooze etc.

I actually did the “sphere” wrap of the particles and masked it. It isn’t exactly what I was attempting but it will do for now. I’ll probably have to do a similar trick to Mr Mercury to get the ooze from her face. and a third particle shot with the ooze circling her.

No doubt about it I need to learn 3D. But I am lovin’ AE.

Sounds like major brain work. It’ll be great if you’ll come back to post in a new thread of the finished sequence. FWIW, Particle Playground offers more control when it comes to specifying areas to be ‘particularised’.

I’m sure I’ll work it out. Might not be exactly what I envisioned but it will be in the right direction.

Thanks for the note on Particle Playground. Looks like another long night.
