Tracking Out of Frame
I watched the “Walk in the Park Tutorial” and found it helpful, EXCEPT — sometimes it works for me, and sometimes it doesn’t. And I can’t figure out what makes the difference. Sometimes the null object will follow the tracking point out of frame, but for a different object it stops at the edge of the frame (right where it’s supposed to begin looping) – even though when I look at that tracking point in the footage, the point itself is moving out of frame. Any ideas? I am stumped.
I am working with a vertical pan, from someone’s head to their waist — for what that’s worth.

before the trackable object leaves frame, hold Alt+drag the tracker to a new trackable point.

I am on a mac and used the option key instead, but it doesn’t work.

what should happen is that the small crosshair/dot should stay there and the 2 search squares should move independently from it. it’s called offset tracking. does that look like what you have? the cow has many tutorials about tracking. especially watch the ones with offset tracking.

Right. The crosshair stays there and the two squares move outside the frame. That is why it is baffling to me. The first two times I did it, in the upper portion of the frame, it worked fine. But now I am further down in the frame (not sure if that has anything to do with it), trying to apply a third effect using the same tracking technique. The squares are still moving outside the frame, but now the effect is not following the squares out, and instead is stopping when the tracking source moves out of the frame. Even though I am following that same procedure as before. Does that make sense?
The other tutorials on tracking don’t quite apply to what I’m trying to do, unfortunately. -

I think you have it backwards.
the squares stay in the image, the dot goes outside the image. and btw, any tracking data still works for applying data even if the data is outside the comp. and I know those tutorials will help you.https://technicolorsoftware.hostzi.com/
