    Hey guys,

I’m working with a 2.7 G5 with a 4 x 400 RAID 0 External SATA Array. We have some weird issues that are popping up from time to time. Basically, we work mostly SD/ProRes and in that realm we really don’t have any major issues. When we throw in some HD footage though, sometimes the system just blanks out for about 5 seconds. The monitors go black, and everything becomes unresponsive.

Obviously the simplest solution is a new mac pro, but I’m holding out for Nahalem based Mac Pros hopefully coming around macworld. Do you guys think this is a OS Hard Drive issue? Motherboard? Bad Ram? Rickety old motorola processors? Rendering from AE doesn’t cause it, just FCP and with HD footage or a large still. Replacing the OS hard drive would be the easiest solution for me.

Worst case, I bite the bullet and get a Mac Pro now. That might be a good idea since odds are there won’t be any firewire 400 ports on an updated mac pro.

If your monitors are going out, that might be your graphics card.
