I’m editing a documentary which has 4 audio tracks. I adjust the volume in envelopes as I edit and add events to the timeline. When I finish a sequence, I go back and fine-tune the volumes and add EQ to individual events as needed. When I’m finished, I have a mix that I’m happy with. This is my workflow because I’m doing nested segments and want each segment to be complete and final.

Am I missing something by not using the multi track BUS MIXER? I’m not really very familiar with this method of mixing and have been very happy with mixing on the timeline using volume envelopes. What is the advantage of using the MIXER?

[Jerry Hart] “Am I missing something by not using the multi track BUS MIXER?”

As the Mixer does TRACKS, and you are needing to carefully adjust Events against Events, in my opinion? In the way you are doing, with the need to keep an eye on the Events? I can’t see an advantage. However….. Once you’ve gotten use to using the Mixer you’d start to adapt your Visual editing to adapt to your Mixer function.

I’ve used and use both. The Mixer is great for straight whole TRACK manipulation. Fine tuning on Events requires your approach.

But if there is a major trick I’m missing I’m always willing to learn.

Using the Master Audio Bus Track makes a world of difference.
And is the correct way to do your Final Mixing and Mastering.
