Hi, I’m trying to teach myself some advanced compositing in AE, and I’m having an issue, I can do the track fine, when analyzing forward, but backward seems to always give me trouble, it always messes up the whole thing in one way or another. For example, the simplest problem is that when I analyze backward my clip, which is just a piece of the whole thing continues going after the start point. It does not do this when analyzing forward, it stops where it should. Another problem is I can’t seem to affect a point throughout the entire Track, if I adjust a point at the end, at the very next frame it immediately jumps back to the original placement. I guess the important question here is, does anyone know of a good tutorial that goes over Track Motion: Perspective Corner Pin, I’m trying to put a video on a tv screen in a movie and the tv is moving all the time, it’s gonna look badass if I can get it right.

    Thanks!

P.S. love, love, LOVE the Cow!

One of the issues with AE’s motion tracker is that it’s fairly difficult to refine once you have tracking results in hand. If you’re doing a complex 4 corner track in AE, sometimes it is easier to track each corner using separate trackers and then tie them all together for the 4 corner pin with expressions. That way if one corner goes nuts on you but the other three are fine you refine your data a whole lot more directly.

If you’re using CS4, I’d highly recommend trying out Mocha AE. It eats projects like this for lunch.
