track motion
Posted by Lee Brennan on December 16, 2007 at 11:29 pmHi,
Is it possible to use track motion on a specific event rather than the whole track? I want to use it on an event and not have it affect everything on that track. Thanks.Edward Troxel replied 18 years, 5 months ago 3 Members · 4 Replies -

Is this something that you could do in Pan/Crop instead?
That would avoid having to do it this way. -

December 17, 2007 at 1:21 amHi Mike,
I am trying to pull the whole frame closer in a particular event (it’s a stop action sequence)- and Pan/Crop only seems to move the clip around- not actually pull the whole thing “forward”. Maybe I am unclear about how to do that with Pan/Crop. Track Motion does what I want but like you said-I would have to put it on a separate track. Thanks. -

December 17, 2007 at 9:02 amIf by “pull the whole frame closer”, you mean zoom in on the clip, Pan/Crop can definitely do this.
Place your cursor at any of the 4 corners (it’ll change to a 2-headed arrow), hold down the left mouse button and drag it towards the centre.
Be advised that, if this is a video clip, zooming in too much will result in a decrease in the image quality. -

December 17, 2007 at 3:12 pmIf zooming in, Pan/Crop will actually do a BETTER job than Track Motion quality-wise. I would definitely recommend Pan/Crop over Track Motion for this.
However, back to the original question: Technically you CAN do it. You just need the proper Track Motion keyframes to do what you’re wanting it to do. Track Motion can be changed over time just like everything else. So you wouldn’t *have* to have a separate track – it’s just generally easier that way.
