    Dear friends …

    As I posted before, I received a .wmv file with a frame size of 1024 x 576 and 25 fps – Progressive. I am not sure but I guess it was originally a PAL (anamorphic) movie – 720 x 576 – 25fps encoded for Windows …. .
If my believes are right, it is like the NTSC DV 853(720) x 480 (anamorphic).
Well, since I will have to insert some charts and some footage made on Motion and in the end I will have to author a DVD, that will be used in Brazil and US … I’m not sure but probably I should start my workflow by transcoding the original file to some editable file …. . Right ?
Should it be to NTSC Anamorphic or ProRes 422 (HQ ?) ?
What do I do with “the Progressive thing” ?

If you could enlight me, I would appreciate ….
Thank you all in advance ….

    Hi Fredy,
Convert your file to NTSC Anamorphic. Use a good codec.
Export it as Progressive. In FC will work without problem in a NTSC Lower-first sequence.

thanks for your post. May I ask ?
What is a good codec for that ? DV, DVCPRO-25/50, 10/8 BIT Uncompressed or even ProRes ?
When importing the final exported (progressive as you said) movies into FCP, will it edit progressively or will it be working interlaced ? This is important because I will be working/creating some Motion Designs in Apple Motion and I have to setup the files to match FCP sequences …..

    Thanks again !

    One thing …..
Changing to NTSC, it will make a 29,97fps file from a 25fps in the original … will it be ok ?

    Hi Fredy,
Your WMV is a YUV 8b (Compressed) file. With 8b Uncompress you can extract all the quality that the picture can offer. The file can be very big, so Proress is a good option.
Keep progressive. Your footage is progressive, and make the graphics Progressive. When picture and graphics are both progressive or Interlaced is OK. When one is “p” and the other “i” can look strange.
To go from PAL to NTSC, you have a good option conforming the p25 to p23,97. No rendering needed. No generation lost.
So, the workflow can be a bit complicated but could be like that:
    – Convert the WMV to QT 25fps 8b Unc 1024×576 square pixels Progressive.
    – Conform in Cinema tools to 23,97.
Edit in a NTC Anamorphic 8b Unc 23’97 Progressive sequence.

Thanks Rafael ! Looks an interesting workflow … lol I’ve never worked before with Cinema Tools. I will check it !
At the end I will try to let you know if everything worked fine.

Once more, Thanks a lot for spending you time …
    Regards,
    Fredy
