Is there a plugin/filter that would give the range of colo(u)r control available in top end Avid systems?
While the 3 way corrector isn’t bad it is much more clumsy (and cheaper!!) than Avids

    Joe,

If you want to REALLY maximize your color correction capabilities, investigate a program called “Final TOuch” by Silicon Color. It’s a separate program that uses XML to take timelines in and out of FCP. However, once you’ve got the info in the program, the degree of control and manipulation rivals that of a daVince color correction suite. (Minus the realtime capabilities, of course).

Final Touch lists for $999 for the SD version and goes all the way up to a 2K version.

There’s also a good plugin called “Color Finesse 2” by synthtic aperature that will give you all the control you are used to. They have a board on creative cow too.

While I agree the Curves pane is wonderful in the Avid CC…the lack of secondary color correction (except in Symphony) and lack of keyframablility is pretty annoying. Hopefully FCP 6 will add curves, but if you want a plug, I will second the recommendation of Color Finesse.

I’ll third Synthetic Aperature’s Color Finesse. Curves and secondary color-correction, plus 32-bit floating-point calculations, so no banding or artifacts. Be prepared for longer render times though… Definitely not an RT kinda deal.

I’ve also used the DFT 55mm filter package, and it sort of splits the difference – No curves or secondary, but more control and better results than the 3-Way corrector, and you can render in 16-bit.

Amazing product, but without a doubt, the worst company I have ever dealt with. I’ve been trying for almost 7 weeks to upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5 and we still can’t seem to get it done. For the first three weeks nobody contacted me. Then I contacted them and it took about two more weeks to start the ball rolling. Then just last week they told me I didn’t have a service contract so “let us get back to you.” I honestly don’t know if I’m going to keep the product.

I even ordered a $6,000 Tangent Control Panel but cancelled it.

Again, it’s a flat out amazing product, but the customer service is just not working for me right now, especially after spending over $5,000 for the product.

Oh and forgot to mention, Jimy Arndt at Silicon Color has been trying his darndest to get this process through. He’s been the lone bright spot in the whole ordeal.
