To those of you who own the HVX200, how are you creating great quality video with almost no noise? I know this is a very generic question, but it is frustrating me. I have read the manual, have read many other books on the HVX, I make sure I have good exposure, I never increase my gain level if absolutely necessary, I’ve experimented with the different scene files shooting in 720 30P and 1080 30P…and I’m still not satisfied with the quality. I know it is a 1/3 inch chip and that noise is inevitable in low light, but I continue to see demo reels from people shooting with HVX200 and the quality is outstanding with hardly any noise.

Any advice on how to achieve the best looking video on the HVX200? Are there 3rd party filters that will remove noise (like Neat Video). Should I use red rock 35mm adapters and use better lenses?

    Thanks for the help,

    Cody

It’s hard to say without knowing exactly what you are doing and the result you are getting.
Can you post a few clips and explain your exact set up, scene file settings and lighting used?

I’m currently on the road doing a corporate video shoot, but I will try to take a few test clips tonight. I’ve mainly been shooting in the standard scene file. I’ll be shooting green screen today with the subject lit so maybe I’ll upload those for you. I’ve recently been doing more wedding videos, and the lighting situation for weddings is usually poor. I’d really like to improve the quality of those shots.

Do you use an onboard light for weddings?

Which gamma setting are you using? The gamma setting makes a big difference in perceived noise on the HVX. B-Press is the lowest noise, Cine-Like V and D are the noisiest.

You can see side by side screen caps of each from the HVX200 and the 170 in my article here https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/hpx_170_evolution_brockett.html scroll down to the bottom 1/4 of the article.
