    hi,

    need to upload a file asap…but how can i get it smaller

    right now 8 mins is 246 mb…takes absolutely ages to upload

    using fcp express

    settings

    h 264
    1024 x 576 (pal widescreen)
    quality best
    bit rate 3200
    key frame auto
    audio 16 mono

    Erm, pretty easy really.

    Reduce the bitrate and the frame size.

    hi

    so what kind of bit rate is ok below 3400 ?? i keep the size big because then it looks better when played back full screen, also gives the hd button on you tube which isn’t the case if I scaled down dimensions,
    what do you do in this case?

    That’s for you to decide. I don’t know what the video is of, or what you’d accept for good quality but I’ve seen stunning 1920×1080 video at half that datarate.

    Compression is all about making compromises. If you want a large frame size and a top picture quality then you need a higher datarate and as such it’s going to take longer to transfer over the internet.

    If you don’t want to reduce the frame size and the video looks crappy below that datarate then either get a faster internet connection or go and make a cup of tea (or 2) while it’s uploading.
