Today’s Avid Experience
I haven’t touched Avid since summer.
Still running 2018.12.3.
Finished assembly in FCPX and was told to export to Premiere at the end.
However, today I am told Avid.
So here we go.
A few questions and yes I have checked the Avid forum.
Is there no option for selecting numerous files then right-click to create bin and move?
Even with this version I still see that odd bug where some file paths are different from others. These are files that reside in the same exact path.
An example: Drive > STUFF1 and the other is Drive > Volume/STUFF1/RAW/RED/ etc…
New, after a few imports using AMA the software bogs right down to the point of useless.
This must be a new bug since this isn’t my first full feature project in Avid.
Last one back in spring I had 42 bins with over 30 days of RED footage AMA and that was like butter.
Same computer, faster RAID this time around.
Something must be up, each time I try and quit the app, it would take at least 10m to process and finish.
I always reboot after these steps.
Any tips would help thank you. -

Update:
After a reboot, the software is as perky as ever.
However, I found the culprit that crashes this version.
Not sure which file yet but its an AMA of a Sony clip.
Need to investigate. -
Update:
After reboot, I found my Avid project in a bit of a mess.
I imported all the audio earlier and the project was saved a few times.
After that crash, a few of the audio bins are missing the audio and forced to re AMA again.
I would understand if it was chronological e.g. AUD012, AUD013, etc…
but this time it lost odd numbers of audio.

Update;
Another doozy.
Exporting AAF using in/out from Resolve tends to carry the full load of the film.
Is this new?
It never used to export the whole timeline before.
Kidna defeats the purpose of in/out markers 😛 -
When AMA linking in the destination bin drop down is bin based on folder that let’s you AMA at a higher folder level and it will create bins based on the folder structure.
They all have to be the same AMA plugin type I think.
And I presume you have selected the mount as card option at the top that shows the card structure as clips.
Re the Resolve export issue why not just trim a copy of the Resolve timeline to the In Out and then just export the whole of that timeline. But that’s a Resolve issue.Pat Horridge

The media is free from the card structure, basically loose in some folders.
I did a few more tests and eventually, it stopped crashing.

Yea that was a PITA. And of course, late last night I set to render the whole film (took 4.5 hours) and all I got was the media but no AAF?
Every other time I tested this I got the AAF with no issues.
I set another render this morning, Ill check at lunch.
