Which one is better, what do you recommend, which one have you used, and why did you buy the one you have versus the other one? I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro and Final Cut Pro Studio that I bought in November. I will also be using a Caldigit VR. If you need any more info, please let me know.

    Thank you,
    Chad

What do you have? Are those third party apps worth the extra $60? What are those third party apps?

I also read that Pro offers these things versus the Regular Version:

    • Blue Ray component – enables burning BR-disks on an ext. Blue-Ray burner
(and even small eg 20min BR-material on standard DVDs (only play back on BR-player))
    • Sound Soap (very good program to save bad audio – in a small way)
    • FotoMagico – If You want HD SlideShows

I have also read some of the info that Roxio has put up, but I want to hear what people’s experiences have been with both versions.

    Thank you,
    Chad

Why not just go to the website and click the compare. Do you need things that are listed in the Pro only column, if yes buy that version.

#1 reason for the Pro version is probably to burn BluRay disc.

I bought the Pro version because I wanted the BD authoring. The menus for burning are very basic and do not look professional IMHO. It does work and for personal use it would be fine for Blu-ray. If you’re doing this professionally then I’d look at other options. The third party apps are OK but didn’t offer anything I don’t already have, I’m not using any of them. The maximum bit rate for the BD is 26Mbps.

I came from Windows and Sony Vegas Pro. I installed BootCamp, Windows7 and Vegas Pro 8.0, I’m using DVD Architect for BD authoring which can give a professional menu with customized sub-chapters and personalized layout. The maximum bit rate for BD is 40 Mbps.
If you’re not looking for BD authoring go with the standard version.

If you don’t need the additional programs but would like to have the Blu-ray plug-in, you can purchase the plug for Toast 10 for $20.00.
