my sony viao came with premiere standard installed. in june i upgraded to
ppro 1.5 and have had trouble since. it’s difficult to learn when crazy
things happen and you don’t know why.
i’ve had crazy things happen with classroom in a book; disappearing timelines
this happened three times (once when i was looking right at it, both timeline
and clips in the project window disappeared ). each time i had completed
editing a project; i have had the timeline freeze at various times; and
lately, the dvds freeze from one to three times, it’s different with each dvd
i discovered adobe’s wiki site where alot of information is given.
i was able to narrow the freeze problem down to two possibilities…bad dvds
or adobe’s make a dvd selection. after several tries at burning a dvd, i selected test and burn. it worked on a dvd – r/w, but trying with a tdk
resulted in two errors. i tried a compusa dvd…it worked, so, another tdk,
but error. then a memorex, and it worked. one error message with an r/w
was “recording error — device not ready” whatever that means…the r/w had
    been erased before.
using adobe wiki and following document 330130, i did most of the ideas for
solving the problem, which enabled my getting the first successful burn, how-
ever i don’t know what the problem is to get rid of it without eleminating
everything on the computer and replacing them one at a time.
so…my question is, after all this, are there solutions other than doing an
uninstall and reinstall. my pc runs xp pro, pentium 4, 800 fsb, a gig of
memory, 400 gig 7200 sata hd, ati radeon x600 xt graphics with 256mb video
memory, in other words, it should have all the horses adobe 1.5 needs…but
something is wrong. can anybody help with some good advice?
    thanks

Looks like you are having 2 problems: Freezing computer and DVD problems. I would suggest a complete reformat of the system and then installing only Premiere Pro to see if the problems go away or not.

thanks, mr. sareen, i’m not sure i know how to reformatt my pc. sony may help me
there, however it does look like your advice to reinstall is what i should do. when
i bought the upgrade from pr standard to pro 1.5, the sales lady at adobe told me to
install pr 1.5 over standard and then uninstall standard. maybe something didn’t go
exactly right with the uninstall and something left over is interfering.
    thanks, again

Hmm…Interesting that Adobe told you to install PPRO 1.5.1 over the standard one. Uninstall all versions of Premiere Pro you have on your system and then download a program called CrapCleaner. Fix all issues that it comes up with and then reinstall the retail version only (the latest one).
