Coming From ASSIMILATE SCRATCH i am realizing how important is having the R3D settings “version independent “… the power of RAW is having different gamma/matrix curve as starting point,

and sometimes the desidered final look can be achieved only trying a couple of starting point + a grade on top of that …
so having resolve keeping the R3D settings independent on more versions of the same shot would be really really a creative advantage .

Hope you guys can put this On…

    thanks

    +1

It would be great to have a red tab with controls mapped to panel also.

Actually I would go a step further, and ask for the ability to turn on R3D settings per-node. How amazing would it be to be able to pull down a matted sky at a lower ISO in a shot?

That and, I think it would be correct to put those settings on the main interface instead of a popup. Especially with new sensor cameras I think it will be more and more prevalent to use R3D decoder settings as part of every grade creatively, as opposed to set-and-forget.

I have no idea how crazy of a suggestion that is in terms of technically implementing it but it’d be killer

That is a brilliant idea Vladimir .
Hope that the davinci team can make the R3D version indenpente asap ,and than ever node independent.

I’ve actually tested that with After Effects and the results aren’t really different than what you can get when you start out with a good gamma setting, a key, and some contrast tweaks.

I’m curious, have you done this with the new MX sensor? It’s range is larger (and the Epic will be larger still) – and I wonder if it won’t become more of an issue?

There will be hdrx with epic. I wonder if and how it would be supported on r3d material.
Specially for large dynamic range. The idea is the same as node based iso but
a bit more sophisticated id say.

I’ve graded MX clips, but I didn’t try that technique in After Effects with them. From what I saw, the MX’s main improvement was a serious decrease in noise in the low end so I didn’t think there was a point. If you want to get a feel for what the Epic footage is like, go track down the Epic Tiger R3D and play around in Redcine-X.

    I’ll look for it.

You’re right the MX is a lot cleaner, but I have also noticed a much expanded histogram.

The more I think about it the more technically complicated this feature seems – you’ll basically be decoding the source 2 or more times in one shot, heavily taxing cpu/red rocket power, and essentially have to introduce true compositing features into Resolve.

Now hey, I’d love some node based compositing in my resolve since the keying and tracking are already so badass but those are dreams 😉

I am not too much of a fan of node based composting anymore.
10 years of Fusion, Nuke and Flame left their mark.
But I am doing two pass gradings of one Red shot on the scratch very very often and mix them by Luma channel.
So, my two main requests for Davinci would be :
    1. Support of OFX plugins.
    2. Support of blend modes and picture-in-picture FX with stills, other clips, titles and stuff
