    Hi Forum,

as user of the newest C4D-Demo (11.010) I am just thinking about to buy my first 3D app.
C4D is my first 3D app and I was testing/working with it for 2 weeks now. All in all – I like it!

Only problem I got: Renderperformance is simply not acceptable! The CPUs on my machine arent used at even the half they could.

Only thing I tried so far: Inside the preferences I set the Multiprocessing manually to 8, but it didnt help.
Now the strange thing: When I Test my machine with Cinebench10 it runs like hell, all cores are at 100%! (CineBench value: 18252 < no Idea if thats good or bad :)) What did you guys experience with C4D? Is it known for such performance issues? Any suggestions? I come from after Effects, so I am used to learn about renderissues 😉 Thanks in advance! Heres my machine: Cinema 4D (11.010) OS: Windows XP-Pro64 bit CPU:2x Intel Xenon Quadcore@2,4Ghz Ram:16 GB Kingston Valueram Ram@667Mhz Render HD: WD VelociRaptor (WD3000GLFS) MB: Asus Z7S WS

I don’t know if it’s a demo limitation or what, but I’ve never heard of that problem with the full product. I get full use of all cpus on my quad core.

Do you find the same thing with all scenes? Do you not see render lines when you render to the picture viewer?

    Hi Adam,

seems not to be a Demo limitation, I just tested a 32 Bit Demoversion on my “old” machine, and there it uses 100% of the cpus.

I tested so far about 20 different Scenes, all the same slow behaviour. Renderlines are always there, I just did a by accident a screenshot when non was to see 🙂

What I dont get: I know, it seems like a hardware problem (XP is fresh installed with only a few programms). But I think Maxons Cinebench has the same Programmcore as C4D, and it runs great, so it shouldn´t be a hardwareissue…
Maxon wont give me a feedback, because Im no registered user but I wont buy it until I know whats wrong- very frustating the whole situation.

I read about that Networkrender in C4D but I couldnt figure out how it works. Is it even worth to run it with one machine? Has it advantages to the “Windowrender” (which is, by the way, very anoying that it always displays the actual frames)?

Very odd. You might try reinstalling and see if that fixes it. In any case you should set render threads to “optimal”.

If you built the machine yourself (or in any case) you should make sure you have SSE instructions turned on in the bios. This wasn’t an absolute requirement before R11 but it is now.

    Hi,

reinstalling aint possible because the C4D Demo has no installer. Maxon says you should copy the Demofolder on your HD or you could even start it from a DVD! I found that a very good and clean solution.

Did you guys have to install the payed C4D11 in a “classic way”? Maybe thats my problem…

UPDATE: Just found out that with complex scenes (hdri.c4d out of the 9.52 lib) the cpu-peaks reaches nearly 100% while rendering one complex frame. When it beginns with the next frame all cpus drop down to 0% for a few secs and then boosts back to 100%.

So with less complex scenes the periods of rendering from frame to frame are much shorter, which means more cpu peaks and less full usage of the cpus.

Also I found it strange that the Ram usage never extends 1 Gb with c4D. Is that normal for even complex scenes? I mean I have 16 GB ram on my system and the feeling I never could use it with c4D, with After Effects I need all the time at least 10 GB to work smoothly.
