    Hello,

My company is slowly building up equipment for production.
We do some interviews with Lav/lapel mics.

Which lav. mic would you recommend (preferably wireless)?

Also, what is a good multi-use boom mic choice? We do promo videos, corporate videos etc…

(these would be the first 3-4 mics we would buy)

    Thanks for any advice…

    Hi Jessica

I would recommend ether the Countryman B-6, or Sankin COS-11X for your lav mic.

For a wireless system, it would depend on how much you’re willing to spend. One system to look at is the Audio Technica 1800. It comes with a dual receiver and two belt pack (lav) transmitters. If you have even more money to spend, then I can always recommend the Lectrosonics 411a’s.

For a boom mic, you want to get a true condenser shotgun mic like the Sennheiser 416 or Sennheiser MKH-60. You might look at the Audio Technica AT-4073a, too. They will set you back a pretty penny, but they’re the only way to get good sound, and not just sound :o)

Just to be clear, most sound mixers don’t use the lav mics that come with the wireless systems. Lectrosonics provides a cheap lav mic with their systems, but we replace them with better sounding lav mics. The Sanken and Countryman are great mics (I own the COS-11 and the EMW series), but you may also want to consider the less expensive Tram TR-50. It’s a good mic that generally cuts well in editing and comes with lots of mounting options.

    Hi Jessica:

You may find both of these articles to be helpful in narrowing down your choices for shotguns and lavs.
