Does anyone have any idea how TNT does their show promos (Rizzoli & Isles, Leverage, etc)? Admittedly, I gush every time I see them and I really want to see if I can re-create that look.

i think you’re talking about the spots that look like they are frozen in time (or time is really slowed down) but the camera is still moving through the scene…

it looks like they are using a bullet-time rig, where a series of still cameras are rigged up to all take a shot at the same time, but from slightly different points of view.

the stills then get sequenced together to look like footage.

i think the tnt spots also incorporated some added animations… i think one has a particle effect in it, so there’s probably some added tracking and some rot involved.

I’m not sure, Kevin. Some of the TNT shots look really shoddy and cheap, like they’re doing it in 2.5d. Especially the shot with the slushy, it just looks bad.
Either way, if you don’t have the moolah for a proper rig, this tutorial may help (or this one or this one or, heck, even this one)
