    Hello,

I am trying to duplicate the effect of a program being paused and then rewound using a TIVO or other DVR device using after effects 6.5. I want the reverse motion to be jumpy like it is when rewinding using one of these, (dropping frames). If anyone knows a quick way to do this, (i.e. not by hand), I would very much appreciate the info.

    Thanks,
    Sean

My guess it to speed up the layer a lot say 400- 800 %. Pre-comp this. On the pre-comp add the effect>Time>’Posterize Time’ effect and set it to only show you a frame a couple of times a second.

Don’t know if it’s available to you, but this would be MUCH easier to do in Premier (for me anyway).

    Layer starts
Cut where you want to pause / frame hold on in point
Make this track as long as you want the pause
Cut past paused track right after it
    Reverse speed
Past track again and play as normal

You could then add “lines and static” as needed in AE
