  • Titles blurry upon export

I tried exporting a project at 480 x 360 for uploading to an online screener (that’s the format they want). Any ideas why my titles are blurry? I understand it’s a small resolution, but even when viewing in a small window on my computer it’s blurry. I would think the titles would be sharp in a small window and only blurry when blown up to be full screen. Any thoughts? The project’s source is 1080p.

    Hi Shane,

Many factors are at play. The titles should be thicker, sans-serif fonts to start with, they always work better for video especially if doing a roll, but I have no idea what you are working with already.

You say the source is 1080p, so assuming the editing sequence is also HD, which is 16:9, but the 480×360 export is 4:3 so you’re changing the aspect and that can also have an adverse effect on appearance of titles. A widescreen export would be 640×360.

In AME, check the box for “Max Render Quality” as that will help with the downscaling quality.

Hope this is helpful, but definitely check into their 480×360 requirement because that doesn’t make sense being 4:3 when everyone is shooting 16:9 today.

    Thanks

    Hey Jeff,

Yes it seems odd they would want something 4:3. Maybe I misread something – here is the posting… how would you interpret this and what export settings would you use?

It’s through imdb and their online screener that is used for Film Festival Submissions. I guess I could just keep it at 16:9 and the viewer which is 4:3 will letterbox it?

    Thanks for the response.

I don’t know how to interpret the instructions, sorry.
