  • Titler: Using a Custom Template

    Posted by William Mcqueen on November 21, 2007 at 2:45 am

    Earlier on today (Nov 20)I posted a question about the use of Custom Templates, but put a slightly misleading subject header.

    In brief:
    =============

    I’ve tried to understand the help file (with PPro2)in regard to custom Templates in the Titler, and did a little trial and experiment of creating a custom template to keep the location lines looking the same.

    I made a template based on the first locator with two lines, and saved it as a template. My idea was that each time I had a new location to insert, I would just open the template and type over the previous text.

    However, each time I did that, saving the general project file, PP2 saved the file with the same name as the template in the project directory, and in order to save the information locator as a separate, discrete title file, PP2 requires selection of the file with the template name, then to export the file as a separate named title.

    Trying to get a handle on this, and appreciate your collective wisdom or additional suggestions.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Hi Bill,
    Sorry I haven’t got version 2 on hand today, only CS3 I’m sure they have the same function tho. When you open the title before you change the text go to Title> New Title> based on current or something to that effect. You need to save a new one and name it with the new text your adding to it so it is referencing its own separate title. Another thing you could do is make a PSD file with the location for the text, bring in the PSD as a sequence, make a new title for that over the position with the same font then add that to the sequence switching off the PSD text layer with the eye for that video layer.

    PS: Come to think of it I think you need to save as or export title. There is a way I used to do it all the time.

    Saving titles created from one template in version 2 was pretty dumb, requiring renaming the title in the Project window.
    CS3 changed that; adding “Name” to the bottom of the Title window.

    I guess it’s time to switch versions, then. Are there any issues in bringing in a PP2 version prproj file into CS3?

    There shouldn’t be any issues with opening CS2 stuff in PPro CS3, however:

    I’m pretty positive that there is a gadget on the top of the titler window that does a “save as new title” or something similar. It brings up the naming dialogue and you simply rename it before you start making changes.

    I know that I’ve done any number of projects where I had just a huge number of titles to make against a particular layout and I know that this works, or I’d be institutionalized by now…
