  title safe & 16×9

  i’m building some grafix that will not be broadcast but will be fed to 42″ plasma screens in 16×9 from DVD. i’m building them all in square pixel 864×486 comps but don’t have any way to test title safe with the actual monitors. broadcast title safe seems to waste a lot of space in this instance. would using action safe reticle as outside limit for text placement be risky or reasonable. i know there is usually some ability to adjust the scan/overscan on the screens but am looking for some guidelines from anyone who has experience with this format.
