tips & tricks to shoot a music video with external master track audio
Hi,
I am going to shoot a music video for a old song coming week. I shoot with 5D mark ii and borrowing 7D and T3i from my buddies, and i do have 70-200 2.8, 100mm 2.8, 24-105 f4 canon lenses. I just bought the zoom h4n and a 3.5mm line to mic 25dB for zoom H4N to directly hook into my 5D to override the 5D audio. Even though i will have to sync the video with the master track provided to me, i just didn’t like 5D audio. It is very much distorted. I was told to buy external mic and xlr to use with zoom h4n but right now am not affordable plus one audio engineer expert suggested this should be sufficient even to use as a main audio. (if you have different opinion on this pls share)
Questions: I will be shooting with 3 cameras where as my main camera will have zoom h4n on the hot shoe. The reason for me doing this way i don’t have to repeat different angles. The script am planning is, start the music with the old Cadillac starting and roaring where one lady call the musician name as “Mike, Are you ready?”(Q1: I want to record this audio as calling from distance. How to do that?) and musician respond as “Yes Baby, I am all ready to Rock n Roll” (Q2: It’s the closer audio since the camera will be focusing only on the musician from the beginning. Q2 is normal. Q1 how should i record the audio as am hearing it from different room? like a distant voice effect? please advise.
I am going to shoot full song in 3 different locations with actor moving, plus playing piano completely in one location. I may be using the home made dolly and slate clapper board. Or may be hand clapping before the action. Q3: What is the final cut workflow should be? Is there anything that i should keep in mind before shooting so i will have correct video to make my post processing easier especially to sync with my completely mastered external high quality audio? How does it work? Since i will be shooting with 3 cameras, how do i organize for multi cam edit? how about my zoom h4n audio? And in the beginning of the song i want to show the video like a old video effect and complete film look. Any video tutorial or plugin you refer with settings?
One more thing is, except 5D mark ii, am planning to shoot with 7D and T3i at 60fps which shoot only 720p. I want to have several good slow motion effects. So upscaling my 720p to 1080p will be a problem?
I hope you could understand what i want to achieve overall. Any clean input to make my workflow related to shooting with multiple cameras in different video format, and audio related issues, fcp workflow and best editing techniques & titles may be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance and can’t wait to hear from you all! Thanks!
