Tips for precision in Apple Motion
The more I use motion, the more I love many aspects of it, and more I find myself extremely frustrated by how IMPRECISE it is!
The keyframe editor drives me nuts. Is there ANY way to Precisely adjust the weight of a keyframe? In AE I can type in a keyframe weight to synchronize easing of multiple parameters.
What about precisely changing the value of multiple keyframes? I can double click and type in a value, but I can’t do this for multiple keyframes. CMD+Arrow does not change the value in precise amounts. Even trying to move a keyframe is often imprecise because just clicking (or double clicking) on it often moves it. If I try to shift drag it in X or Y to change the value or time, I can’t seem to hit Shift quickly enough so that I don’t alter both value AND time at least a little bit.
Also, is there any distinction between “object space” and “world space” axes on a 3D object? If I rotate an object, the XYZ move handles also rotate, but I can see that when I drag on one of them, multiple transform values change. And, since I can’t precisely adjust eases, objects end of floating all over the place when I keyframe their position.
Sorry for a bit of a rant, but do any of you have workarounds for these issues? How do YOU make precise adjustments in Motion?
I’ve been a heavy AE user for many years, and have used motion occasionally. I love motion’s performance, robust instancing and particle replication workflows. 1 timeline per project is a bit frustrating, but I can deal with that if I can get around some of these other things. I really want to love this program.
