  • TIP: time code and guide layers

Here’s a tip for especially when you’re working w/producers and have to refer to test renders over and over and over and over:

Make a SOLID layer and apply the TIME CODE Effect to it. In the Layer menu, designate that Layer a ‘Guide Layer’.

    Make TWO render settings templates:
One at a lower rez and GUIDE LAYERS ON for test renders

The 2nd at your target resolution and with GUIDE LAYERS OFF

If you reliably use the Render Settings, you’ll never get time code on your final renders. Meanwhile, you have a ‘burnt in’ time code on your test renders, which make working in collaboration with people much MUCH easier, especially if they are using a crappy, non-professional viewing utility such as Windows Media or Quicktime Player, in which it is rather inconvenient to get to specific frames.
