I know a lot of FCP editors coming to Premiere Pro are, like I was, missing the ability to generate slug for use as a placeholder or for other reasons.

Here’s one way to do it:
Create a blank title (right click in Browser and select “New Title”), leave it completely blank, and call it “Slug” in the Browser … and voila, you’ve got slug. You can Command-click (Mac) or Ctrl-click (PC) on the title to load it into the Source monitor like any other clip to mark ins and outs and adjust the duration.

Not the most spectacularly awesome tip I know but I’m sure some current/former FCP editors who have been missing Slug could benefit from it.

Just go to File->New->Black Video (or Color Matte). Unless you specifically want text/logo and/or a transparent clip. You can rename it anything you want (either in the timeline or Project Window).

BTW – regardless of what option you use, If you nest it, you’ll also get an audio slug to match.
