Tinny sound
Hi there:
i am using a basic dv camcorder at the moment which has no external microphone only an internal one. when i record the sound quality is poor and often comes out tinny and hollow. does anyone know what would be the best filters to use in FC or soundtrack to balance it a bit and give in more depth?

Its difficult if not nearly impossible to fix something like that. some sort of EQ settings will help, but not by much.
It sounds like your camcorder is set to the usual default
of 12-bit 32khz. Go in the menu and change it to 16-bit
48khz and that might help quite a bit on future shoots.
Attenuation should be off as well. -
Open the clip in the Viewer, and select Effects -> Audio Filters -> Final Cut Pro-> 3 Band Equalizer. Adjust the Low Gain, Mid Gain, and High Gain sliders to taste — those are your bass, mids, and treble controls. That’s probably your quickest and easiest fix…
If you’ve got a good ear and good speakers, the AUGraphicEQ filter under the Apple submenu in Audio Filters will give you much more precise control. You might want to use a combination of both; get a rough EQ with the 3 Band and then use the graphic EQ to tweak certain frequencies that the camera accentuates and do a finer cleaning.

thanks for that. i have a play around tonight and that does seem to help and give it a bit more depth. not to sure what to do in the au eq though.dave
