    Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting here though I’ve used the archives quite a bit. Thanks to everyone for all the help and advice on this forum.

I’m editing a short film on FCP that requires some sound effects and music to sound as if heard over a cellphone – tinny and flat, with a LITTLE distortion. I’ve had a look at the plugins in FCP and Soundtrack, but I’m a total novice when it comes to sound. Is there anyone here that could point me in the right direction?

    Many Thanks!

If you go to “Search Posts” and and look for the terms “phone sound” in all active posts, you’ll find a bunch of ideas using equalization filters of various sorts, such as this:

For a quick ‘telephone voice’ sound effect, use Effects>Audio Filters>Final Cut Pro>High Pass Filter. Set frequency to 2300 and ‘Q’ to 10

    Thanks!

Sorry, I should have done a more thorough search. =)

Also, in the future you may consider purchasing Jay Rose’s excellent book AUDIO PRODUCTION FOR DIGTITAL VIDEO which, along with a lot of good info, contains “recipes” for doing this and other audio effects and cleanup.

Sorry, that should be AUDIO POSTPRODUCTION FOR DIGITAL VIDEO!
