Any recomendations for tutorials and or books on timing, easing and natural motion theory as they apply to the tools in After Effects? A springboard to evaded the old trial and error (and error and error).

    Thanks

These are conventions left over form the olden days of hand-drawn animation. I’d start at your local library to find some books on film animation.

You can google STRETCH AND SQUASH, OVERSHOOT, and REBOUND for information about animation that may lead you to other resources.

I’ve done a lot of stop action and cel-based animation, I know of no magic formulae for eases, you just sort of develop a feel for it.
“Natural” motion is not natural at all. It is influenced by chaotic external forces and the appearance of motion depends all upon one’s point of view. What has evolved over one hundred years of animation is a set of conventions. suggestions that an audience will perceive, or at least accept, as natural movement.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
