Timewarp?
Posted by Rich Tencza on June 23, 2005 at 4:46 pmPotential newbie queston.
Does FCP 5 have timewarp effect that lets you animate the speed ramp curve of the clip.
For instance start out at keyframe of 100% compress an area between 2 keyframes slow down for 50% between keyframes and then rampout and go back to 100%?In other words sort of like like Time remap in AE.
Thanks!

June 24, 2005 at 5:11 amI have used Timewarp on the Avid and it is fantastic. It is so user friendly I just played with it and got it to do what I wanted.
On FCP I find the Time Remap function (which is supposed to do the same thing)so complicated and user UNFRIENDLY that it is impossible to get it to do this type of effect.
I don’t know of anyone who knows how to do this properly.
I would ;love to know.
Have they improved it in V5? -

June 24, 2005 at 2:37 pmwhen you consider that time alteration has been around since AE3 and existed in one forma or another in all NLEs for more than 10 years, FCP’s Time Remap is incredibly lame. There is no excuse for the paradigm or the interface (or, for that matter, the terrible rendering) but we’re stuck with it. If time remapping is important to you workflow and your client satisfaction, you will need another tool besides FCP.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

June 24, 2005 at 7:23 pmI agree with all of this. AE’s time remap, even if it’s not doing an “optical flow”, is MUCH better than FCP’s time remap. FCP time remap gives all sorts of jitters and the GUI is horrible to use.
At least with twixtor you can now use FCP’s built-in time remap and render with Twixtor’s engine. This solves one of the problems…
