is there any way to zoom in/out in the timeline in an “analog” way by moving the mouse?

    what I am looking for:
for example hold down alt + left mouse button > drag mouse up/down > resulting in a zoom in/out centered around the position of the mouse pointer.

I am not very fond of the zoom slider because of the fact that it only centers around the time indicator position. or is there maybe an option that can make it center to the mouse pointer?

ideally I would like to be able to do zooming AND panning without using any of the sliders (for ex. alt+Mouse > drag left/right for panning – or holding space+left mouse button + drag, just like in photoshop). Using the slider is always an extra step and slows me extremely down. especially when zoomed in to the extreme, the slider becomes almost unusable because it’s so sensitive. I need to constantly zoom out again, center the time indicator zoom in and so on and so on….

Is there anything that I have overseen which makes faster moving around in the timeline possible?

    Hold Alt and scroll.
It will zoom in/out on position of the mouse.

Thank you Ann, but I already knew about this one.
The question was if I can do it in a more “analog” way… by analog I meant without “steps” (like when using the mousewheel) and in speed analog to my movement… that’s why I wrote in my question “moving the mouse” and “drag mouse”

using the wheel is i.m.o. quite inaccurate and at the same time very cumbersome and slow compared to the other method.
I am used to this function from multitrack audio editing and I miss it immensely when I edit in premiere.
Such a small feature – but huge impact on speed ; )

Set the Zoom In level to the closeness you like then use the “\” backslash key to zoom out to view the entire sequence, click on the desired point in time with the play-head and then hit the backslash key again, it will zoom back into to your preset level. This one way you can jump around zooming in and out quickly.
