  • timeline zoom behaving weirdly, any thoughts?

I’ve never had any consistent results trying to zoom in and out of the timeline in FCP (using opt -/+). Sometimes it seems like it zooms in to the timeline curser, but if you zoom back out it wanders elsewhere. A lot of times it just seems to wonder and you have to play around with the timeline to get back to where the curser is. Highly annoying and really slowing me down. I’ve tried the zoom tool (Z/ZZ plus clicking), but it’s so slow. So I was wondering:
1- is there a way to get the zoom in on the timeline to center on the timeline curser, &
2- is there a reason why it doesn’t always center on the curser, or is this a glitch?
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

I find the FCP timeline zooms centered on any clip that’s highlighted.
If there is no clip highlighted, it centers on the cursor.

One trick I do is zoom in as far as I think I need to be. Then I hit the space bar twice real quick. After it pauses playing, your playhead will be centered.

Sorry for the delay, friends in from out of town. But I appreciate the help. Didn’t realize the highlight trick and it does help a lot. Still, I wish there was a way to set it to center in on the curser regardless. That would be a nice time saver.
Thanks again both of you for the help and suggestions!

I too wish this was an option. Zoom to curser is all I want. I really get frustrated with this feature in FCP.
