  • Timeline won’t play after recapture

I have been having this problem repeatedly, in which my timeline is freezing. The audio will play briefly, but with stutter, and the video will not lay at all. I can scroll through the timeline normally and clips play fine in the left side of the composer window.

We are in the late stages of editing a documentary. Most of the footage has been recaptured in full resolution, but we are still rearranging material and adding low-res clips in the timeline (we captured most of our tapes in full in low-res). I have been adding the new low-res clips on a different video track so they don’t get mixed up with the recaptured footage. We haven’t had any problems with playback using this method until we try to recapture the low-res stuff. My method has been to copy that track in a new sequence, decompose it, recapture that footage and paste it back into the original timeline. This seems to be a good system, except that recently, this problem has been occurring. The timeline freezes as soon as the new clips have been placed, and this playback problem occurs throughout the project in all of our other timelines.

I don’t get any error messages and I tried removing the new files from the OMFI folder and trashing the directories like you do for corrupt files, but that didn’t help. I also tried copying the timeline into a new project, but that didn’t help either. In the past, I tried consolidating the footage from the timeline and that solved the problem, but it’s not something I want to have to keep doing.

    Here are my computer stats:

    Hardware Overview:

    Machine Model: Power Mac G5
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 2.25 GB
    Bus Speed: 900 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.1.8f3
    Serial Number: YM438XBFQPL

    GeForce FX 5200
    Avid Xpress Pro 4.6

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im sure you have tried – but we had a similar program with a long format show as well. Once we conformed / onlined our 15:1 to 220DnxHD (Symphony) the timeline would no longer play – I could scroll and it would be there, I could load individual clips and they would play fine – but not in master timeline.

This worked for us, but again -it could be another Symphony bug and I understand you are on an Xpress system. Create a new sequence within the same project – add an in at the very first frame of your start – no bars tone / nothing and do the same with the end point – no extra black or anything. Copy it to the clipboard – and paste into a new sequence without changing timecode structure or anything. Then render entire sequence.

Once again – it has worked twice for us now on the symphony nitris – hopefully it works for you. I will try to uprez some footage on our Xpress to see what it does..

    Good luck –
