I am trying to play a timeline out to a DVCPROHD 1400 deck but I only get audio and a still frame from the timeline. This was an HDV sequence which I converted to DVCPROHD 1080i to match the deck I am using, (the file was supplied on a HD drive). I have a solid 1394 signal out to the 1400 deck, and the timeline will play on the desktop, but not out 1394. Neither Print to Video, nor playing from the timeline will yield anything besides a still frame.

IS the deck set to record 1080i? Or 720p? Gotta set that up properly in the deck settings.

VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES? from the FCP menu.

Are you turning on the deck before you launch FCP?

Timeline and deck are both set to 1080i60, so is output. All Frames is on. View is in Image. The “deck” is actually a P2 Gear, which I am using as a gateway to get from firewire to HDSDI to give me a final output to a HDCAM deck, which only accepts HDSDI.

OK…the P2 Gear needs to be set to the EXACT format you are outputting. So if you are outputting 1080i59.94, then the Gear needs to be set exactly to match. If 1080i 30p…then exact same settings.

I have never used the Gear as a playthrough to a deck…it should work. It goes right to the monitor.

The P2 Gear only offers one flavor of 1080…60i, it does offer 3 kinds of 720, but it is set correctly for what I am outputting.
