  • timeline length limit for still image?

Posted by Richard Blakeslee on April 6, 2005 at 7:07 pm

I’ve researched this a little but can’t find an answer. I imported a Photoshop image (19MB, 3498×5822, 1200 pixels/in) into FCP 4.1. Wanted a long zoom in–about 1:20 Put when I strech the still image on the timeline it stops at 1:10. No matter what I do I can’t get the sucker to get to 1:20. I finally added a freeze frame at the end to cover the last ten seconds (at the end of the zoom) Is there a limit to how long one can strech a still image? Doesn’t seem right. Is it a RAM thing? Or I’m I doing something simiple and wrong?

    Thanks, Richard

    G4, 10.2.8, dual 1gig, 1gig ram, FCP 4.1 done of storage.

    Hiya Richard,

I’m new to FCP and discovered this one recently.

    Pretty lame eh?

I found that if you change the bitmap’s duration in the bin you’ll be able to extend it to one minute greater than the duration.

FCP seems really weird when it comes to handling bitmaps see my post just below! and just b*****y awful for animations as bitmap sequences.

You can load the still into the viewer and click in the tc duration box and type the length that you want it to be.

I read about this from the following link.

Lots of useful tidbits of information.

    Aaaaah! I didn’t know that!

Not quite as easy as just dragging it out on the TL though.
