Timeline hiccups when playing
When I play the sequence in the timeline, after every clip the scrubber will stop and the video will stop (although the audio keeps going) and after a second or so the video will ‘catch up’ to the audio. What could be the problem?

Could be a combination of problems. You have not given any specifics about your system. Bottom line, your hard drive cannot keep up with your footage.
