Timeline fault
Hi!
I am perplexed by a problem that surfaced immediately after I had a replacement hard disc installed on my laptop. All programmes, including APP, were reinstalled and have been running fine, except for one thing when I am editing on APP.
When I have chosen in and out points on a clip in the viewer and then drag it into the timeline, it appears magnified by around 30-40 per cent, with the obvious loss of video quality.
I have no idea why it does this…it never did before the hard drive replacement. I have searched settings and come up with no solution…anyone got any ideas that could help?

Couple of options…
Are you sure the footage matches the sequence settings? Try dragging a clip onto the “New Item” icon (bottom of Project Window).
Additionally, check the preferences to make sure Premiere isn’t automatically scaling clips to the sequence size (Preferences – > General – > about half way down there’s a checkbox next to the sentence “Default scale to frame size.” This should be unchecked.
Lastly, since this is a newly restored system, your video drivers could be older, causing video redraw issues. I would suggest updating them.

Is the Program Window set to ‘fit’ if all the other above options do not give any results.

You don’t say what version of Premiere Pro you’re using – what you’re describing sounds like a mismatch between your footage and your timeline.
In V.5 you drag a clip to the new document icon (on the bottom of the browser panel, in v 5.5 you can right click and say new sequence from clip.
Let us know how that helps or not.

yep…when I alter that mode, it reduces or expands the exact same image. I´m beginning to think there´s a deeper glitch 🙁

Hi, the version i have (2.0) is old, too old I guess for the new item suggestion. That didn´t work. The default option in the preference settings was already unchecked. Time for a new version, I think! many thanks for your suggestions…if you know of any others…?? best M

Thanks a lot for the advice. The version is 2.0. I have tried dragging a clip into the New Item tab in the bottom of the screen, I guess to set the sequence settings (?), but nothing happens which I think is because the programme is old. I will probably buy a new version as it´s time to upgrade anyway and that should give me the flexibility to make my own settings. Unless there´s anything else to try??

That started in V.5.
In V.2 (which I don’t have anymore) You need to know what kind of footage you have….so we can tell you what kind of sequence to create. V5.5. (current) works a whole tons better. 😀
