I notice in Vegas 5 that sometimes the cursor on the timeline doesn’t match up with the video on the display. If your are trying to be frame accurate you need the cursor on the timeline to be in sync with the video in preview display. I can’t quite figure out how to do this. Maybe a matter of shrinking or expanding the timeline? Any ideas? Thanks

I’m not exactly sure what you’re saying. The preview screen will always match the frame where the cursor is currently located.

I was trying to match beats in a song to sync with the action in a video and for some reason I seem to be out of sync because the image in the preview window differed slightly from the image that the cursor was over in the timline. Maybe by a fraction of a frame. Anyway I solved the problem by working around it and matched up the beats just fine. The video by the way is called the Batdance and you can see it online at youtube.com. Just search for jimdevo. You can also comment on it if you like. Thanks for the interest.

Jim, the thumbnails in the timeline are only intended to be “representative” frames – the exact frame that is shown will obviously be different depending on how much you’re zoomed in at a particular time. As Ed says, the Preview window is what you should be using – this is not a workaround, it’s how it’s meant to work.

(Tried looking at Batdance but it’s marked “removed by user”.)

Yes “workaround” was a bad choice of words. I did (finally) realize that the preview window is frame accurate and that’s what I should be using for accuracy rather than the timeline. Vegas is such a vast software I continue to learn new things from it. By the way I reposted Batdance on youtube if you still wanted to see it. Thanks

If you zoom in far enough on the timeline, you will get one picon for every frame. You’d have to zoom in pretty far, though. Just make sure you use the Preview screen for true frame accuracy.

BTW, if you hold down Alt/Up Arrow the timeline will stop zooming when it set to this state.
