Time/date data embedded into clips
I’m using a Sony HDR XR-550 camcorder. When these sort of camcorders record they store the time date details at the same time either as EXIF data, like a digital camera does or some similar way of recording these details. Is this data embedded into each clip & if so what other programs can read this data?
The reason that I ask is because I have just returned from a long holiday where I shot lots of video & also have many stills from this camcorder & other still cameras. I always make sure that my cameras clock is correct, the reason being that I can then compare this information with our itinerary or diary to confirm exactly where every scene was shot. This also should allow me to sort clips into date taken sequence.
When I go home I plugged my camcorder into the PC & fired up PMB software but for some reason I could not get the software to recognize the camcorder. I eventually got the PC to recognize the camcorder & was able to transfer the clips to the PC. Windows 7 doesn’t appear to have captured any date other than the date of this transfer. Even when I click on properties I can’t see the correct time shot information. I also add to the same file any video or photos from my wife’s camera to the same folder.
The next day I was able to open these clips in PMB but again only the date of transfer is available. I know PMB is pretty useless except for a couple of things. I like to use the program to review each clip & if it isn’t up to scratch or too similar to a better clip I delete it then & there. I can also trim out unusable portions of a clip or get good screen catches. This means that when I open Vegas I have fewer clips to content with to sort through & all of them are usable.
Another major failing of PMB is that while it can rename clips its only possible to do one at a time. I like to rename the clips to reflect the event, city, birthday etc so that when I’s using Vegas I can much easily find the clip I want. I use a freeware program called FreeCommander to rename multiple clips all at once. If you know any other program that will do this from the displayed thumbnails please advise.
Can Vegas be set to sort clips into time/date sequence?
Thanks in advance
