    Hey gang
The plant just took the dive into a Xpress Pro HD set up and everthing is fine except one little deal. If we want to do approvals with TC burn to VHS or DVD.(longform) there is no TC coming out of the system. Is everyone just using the illusions plugin or is there a way to steal t/c off of the 422 cable so we can send it down the line to our rack room? All options taken into consideration.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hey Pearl,

In order to get timecode onto a vhs or any other source, you will have to pass the video signal through a timecode generating device (i.e Betacam deck. By simply doing a digital cut to a beta tape and then passing that signal through to your vhs tape, you will have a burn, provided you patch it appropriatley (composite super out and character switch set to on) The avid itself is not capable of outputing timecode. The only way around this is to simply apply the timecode effect found in the avid effects palate. May take a bit to render depending on computer speed, but works perfect.

    Cheers

    Thanks Anthony,
That was our workaround today, but, tying up a beta machine for a vhs dub is sacreligious in our shop. I’ll continue my search…

There is a real time AVX timecode plug-in floating around on the Internet somewhere that is part of the Illusion set of effects. There is a real time AVX version being worked on within Avid that will appear in a future release.

You should check out Horita for RS-422 to timecode overlay products.

Hey Michael thanks for the tips. I tried the illusions tc window burn that is in the AVID goodies folder but it’s a render that I have no time for. I’ll take a surf for the real time version you’re talking about. I also give Horita a spin.

    Thanks Again Take care
